Alumata

The Alumata is the ship of Makaio-Faraji, spymaster archon to Queen Helena-Chione of Wynid. It is where a Celestial archon meets his human instrument in private, and where the novel shows what Crown intelligence looks like when it is not sitting in a court.

Where the archon runs his agent

Makaio-Faraji uses Terence Wilson-Fletcher as a human instrument, and their later meetings happen aboard the Alumata — a venue chosen because it belongs to neither Gondiar’s government nor Wynid’s court. The conversations there cover the Gyvoy and Bopbe networks and the suspicion that they touch Mara Yama interests.

Olomo, the Heresy archon, is received in the same register — not a Crown subject but a Great Game peer whose interests occasionally align. The ship functions as neutral ground between dominions that do not otherwise meet.

A yardstick for Heresy power

Heresy Dominion ships can outscale Crown counterparts such as the Alumata, with individual hulls carrying heavy defensive systems because the Heresy fields fewer traditional war fleets. Naming a specific Crown ship is how the novel makes that asymmetry concrete.

The ship outlives its operator’s body only as a reference point: once Toše snipes Makaio-Faraji at the Governor’s mansion, the archon continues as the Makaio-Spirit inside Terence, and the intelligence work moves from a hull to a human skull.
