Terence Wilson-Fletcher
Terence Wilson-Fletcher is a ~24-year-old detective in Santa Rosa on Gondiar whose investigation of gang networks and Uranic subversion uncovers Celestial infiltration. His thread is a murder-and-network case that outgrows human policing. Through informant building, archon contact, and the late Makaio-Spirit merge, he becomes a manhunter linking Gyvoy, Dagon, Liliana, and the plots that feed the Dolod crisis.
Informant network
Terence builds a street-level network after arresting gang figure Younes, only to watch the case spiral. Lieutenant Colvin orders Younes to introduce offworld contact Dagon to Gyvoy Enfoe, but the surveillance fails and Younes is murdered. Colvin then self-immolates in custody after Celestial analysis is ordered. Family heir Zelinda Jalgori-Tobu tells him the Governor’s office has ordered Dagon not pursued — an early sign that official channels are compromised or constrained.
When Finn, Josias, and Ellie return to Gondiar, Terence escorts them to Zetian Palace. Summoned to Wynid for a loyalty test, he meets archon Makaio-Faraji amid Thyra’s first congregant combat trial — decades of world-time later he is still working that archon relationship. Promoted to head of the intelligence network, he marries forensic tech Jimena, has son Aljan (later dating Laurella) and daughter Vanilda (who voices liberation sentiment), and watches Hafnir blossom while underworld QIX / Human Liberation funding trails point offworld to Tinaja.
Celestial archons and manhunt threads
Terence’s cases keep brushing Celestial-grade tech and deniable operators: Medusa, Toše, Liliana, Bopbe kidnappings, and funding trails for Human Liberation and the Regal Democrats that point offworld to Tinaja. He links Liliana’s face to an old Gyvoy meeting and works Medusa after she admits Sahdiah’s Traveler-archon tasking. Bombings and crackdowns kill colleagues (including right-hand Lucia) and harden Gondiar under navy occupation.
When Makaio-Faraji is sniped by Toše, the dying archon neurally transfers an aspect of himself into Terence — the Makaio-Spirit. The hybrid activates protocols with Neusch (Makaio’s son) and pushes the investigation toward Gyvoy imposture (Dagon), multi-archon warning messages (Asahi-Iryna, Olomo, Sahdiah), and pursuit of disguised ships toward Dolod. Family ties complicate loyalty: his son dates Laurella (daughter of Otylia and Josias); his daughter voices liberation sentiment; displaced Jalgori-Tobus shelter at his villa during the lockdown.
Role in the wider plot
Terence’s thread is the novel’s investigative spine: where Finn’s story is adventure and Engine engineering, Terence maps who is funding and steering rebellion from above. By the endgame he is no longer only a Santa Rosa detective but a carrier of Celestial purpose — still human enough to protect Medusa, Jimena, and Vanilda, yet pulled into inter-archon politics that outscale Gondiar policing.
