Dolod is the iron exotic gas giant at the heart of the novel’s strategic crisis. Steered across interstellar distances by an ancient Archimedes Engine, its potential capture into the Kelowan system would reshape Crown Dominion helium economies — while alternative trajectories and momentum transfers threaten imperial order itself.
Iron exotic and the Engine
Dolod is an iron exotic gas giant still carrying an Elohim Archimedes Engine. A burn roughly seven thousand years before the novel’s present redirected it from the Gomatu vector toward Kelowan, so its orbit and approach are managed infrastructure rather than natural drift. For Dominion planners, a successful insertion into Kelowan brings iron-exotic wealth and strategic depth to whoever holds the licences. For human liberation strategists and for manipulators posing as allies, denying that outcome — or weaponizing the Engine’s momentum transfers — is a way to strike Celestial power without winning a conventional fleet battle.

Trajectory crisis and Boksrock
Gyvoy Enfoe steers Finn toward using the Engine to keep Dolod from settling usefully for Kelowan — framed as liberation. Grief over the Gondiar crackdown (including the Marchioness’s death) and Gyvoy’s hidden interface with Finn’s induction pad push the operation past any simple plan. Engine commands redirect momentum transfers toward Boksrock; anchor ships cage geometries that surprise even hardline actors massed at the capital.
Helena-Thyra brings fleets early to Kelowan and wants narrative control of the “human rebel” story, including capture of Finn. How much of the final Boksrock threat she pre-plans is never resolved: she exploits the crisis, issues kill orders when the Diligent flees, and benefits from Carolien’s fall — yet Boksrock’s geometry may exceed any single court script.
Diligent escape and aftermath
In a second transfer, Finn engineers acceleration of the Diligent via an anchor ship and its ZPZ field, allowing the arkship to flee toward Capo Frois. Ellie recovers suppressed memories of Gyvoy’s non-consensual interface, reframing the whole Dolod operation as Celestial-level infiltration as much as Uranic agency. Dolod remains the hinge: a gas giant whose path is both prize and weapon, and whose stations are where the novel’s physics, politics, and personal betrayal peak together.
