Zelinda Jalgori-Tobu
Zelinda Maryann Richelle Jalgori-Tobu is the first daughter and heir of the Jalgori-Tobu client aristocracy on Gondiar — the pragmatic institutional face of Uranic rule while twins Finn and Otylia take more mobile or ministerial paths. Her loyalty is to family rather than rebellion glamour, and the novel uses her as the heir who still has to speak for constrained official channels when Celestial and Governor politics close in.
Heir of a client house
The Jalgori-Tobus administer human society on Gondiar for the Celestials of the Crown Dominion. Mary Kathleen, 43rd Marchioness of Santa Rosa, and Marquis Lamik head the house; Zelinda is designated successor. Finn holds Hafnir as Minsterialis; Otylia holds Serki; Everett is the older brother whose wife Variaka later dies in the crackdown airstrike with the Marchioness. Zelinda’s job is continuity: palace legitimacy, Governor liaison, and keeping the family useful to Celestial order.
That usefulness is double-edged. Client aristocrats enjoy livestone estates and neural privilege denied to baseline humans, yet they remain second-class to Celestials — the structural tension that feeds Finn’s restlessness and Josias’s rhetoric even when Zelinda stays inside the system.
Intelligence channel and the Dagon order
Early in Terence Wilson-Fletcher’s Santa Rosa investigation — after Younes’s murder, Colvin’s custody immolation, and failed surveillance of offworld contact Dagon — Zelinda is introduced through Gondiar’s intelligence network. She tells Terence the Governor’s office has ordered Dagon not pursued. That beat is small on page time and large on theme: the heir of the human client house is already the messenger of a cover-up or political constraint that protects Celestial-grade operators inside “Uranic crime.”
When Finn, Josias, and Ellie return from Anoosha, Terence escorts them to Zetian Palace — the same institutional world Zelinda represents. She is not the deal-maker of the Hafnir settlement (that is Josias with the Marchioness) but the long-term face of house stability that deal is supposed to serve.
Lockdown, flight, and Diligent reunion
Under General Avone-Valerio the navy seizes Santa Rosa power centres and displaces the family for HQ. Zelinda flees with Otylia, Everett, and Otylia’s children, including Laurella and Dushan — sheltering at Terence and Jimena’s villa, then escaping on the Polkadav after Josias’s strike broadcast and the airstrike that kills the Marchioness and Variaka. The Polkadav waits for the returning Diligent; Zelinda is among those who rejoin Finn’s shipboard faction for the Dolod endgame and Capo Frois flight.
Zelinda indicates that she will need to return at some point — the heir’s unfinished claim on Gondiar even as the family becomes fugitives. Her arc is pragmatic survival of client aristocracy: she neither dumps Finn from a plane nor seizes a mindline, but when the Dominion decides the Jalgori-Tobus are the insurrection, the heir still has to choose hulls, allies, and whether house memory continues off-world.
