Uixic
Uixic is a provincial planet of the Crown Dominion — minor beside capital worlds such as Kelowan and Wynid, and not one of the six royal seats. That obscurity is its function. It is the home world of Bekket, the manufacturing origin of the kestrel sprites that bring down an empress, and the destination of the inquiry that kills Uulana-Lyon.
A world outside the spotlight
The Crown’s politics concentrate on the six royal systems and on the courts that rotate the empress role between them. Uixic sits below that line — a secondary world whose lords are counted as minor provincial nobility by queens who have Kelowan and Wynid to think about.
Precisely because it draws no imperial attention, powerful Celestial families keep what they cannot keep at court there: secluded estates, secret laboratories, and enterprises that do not appear in anyone’s ledgers. The planet’s significance in the novel is entirely a function of what its remoteness permits.
Bekket’s countship and the Uixic inheritance
Bekket holds Uixic as count, and the title is how the court knows him: Helena-Chione takes “Lord Bekket of Uixic” as her coronation-night partner, and Thyra is born the following year to the sneer of “Oneshot”. A provincial countship is read as a harmless match.
The Uixic line carries more than a title. Its heritage passes down subtle, hidden neural abilities and biological traits, and those traits do covert work in court politics rather than ceremonial work — Thyra inherits thought-shielding from her father’s side, and it is what lets her kill through the trials without being read. When Bekket reveals aspects of her true heritage during the survival trial arc, what he is telling her is what Uixic gave her.
Kestrel sprites
Uixic is where kestrel sprites are made: microscopic, atom-thin nanotech and biotech clouds released into a planetary stratosphere, where they breach and monitor passing spacecraft without being seen. It is a provincial world’s industry that only a covert buyer wants.
They decide the capital endgame. The Green Bounty releases kestrel sprites above the Imperial Palace at Kelowan; when Carolien-Amaia attempts evacuation during the Archimedes Engine crisis, they infect her ship’s systems, the vessel fails, and the empress dies in free fall while Helena-Thyra watches and rejoices.
The Banishment Campaign
Uixic is old ground. It was a battleground of the Banishment Campaign, in which the Crown Dominion drove the Kiu Celestials out. The planet’s remote holdings are therefore not merely rural but historically emptied — estates on land the Crown took, far from the courts that took it.
The inquiry that ends here
After his daughter Delfina dies in the Binji survival trial, Uulana-Lyon investigates Bekket and Thyra under trade pseudonyms, and the trail leads to Uixic and to Iuntin-Detlef of the Guillrameo network. Before he is killed he sees a gallery of familiar, seemingly cloned individuals — one of the planet’s hidden enterprises, glimpsed once. His ship is clandestinely slowballed, his sons die with him, and the wreck is discarded at Tonobo.
The thread stays open. Lord Gahiji, displaced as chief archon, investigates the Guillrameo network alongside the question of whether Zuberi-Dulcina’s line truly died out — survivors of the fallen sixth queen’s family are rumoured to remain, and remote estates are where such a lineage would keep. Neusch is still working toward Uixic during the naval endgame, passing what he finds to Clavissa. Nobody reaches the planet again on the page.
